Sanders Claims Walmart Pays Employees ‘Starvation’ Wages
At Walmart’s annual shareholders meeting in Bentonville, Arkansas, on Wednesday, presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders claimed the retail giant pays its employees “starvation” wages while its owners are “the richest family in America,” paying its CEO $20 million.
Sanders, attending the meeting as a proxy for a Walmart employee, read a resolution he asked the board of directors to pass which would pay employees a living wage of at least $15 an hour and require “hourly associates” to be nominated for seats on the board.
“Today with the passage of this resolution, Walmart can strike a blow against corporate greed and a grotesque level of income and wealth inequality that exists in our country,” Sanders said. “Please do the right thing. Please pass this resolution.”
