Pope Endorses Essay Trashing U.S. Conservative Christians
In a meeting with a group of Jesuits during a recent trip to Mozambique, Pope Francis endorsed a 2017 essay criticizing conservative U.S. Christians as ignorant, theocratic racists, according to Breitbart, and declared that some “cannot really be defined as Christian.”
“Two important articles in Civiltà Cattolica have been published in this regard. I recommend them to you,” the Pope reportedly said. “Reading them you will see that there are sects that cannot really be defined as Christian. They preach Christ, yes, but their message is not Christian. It has nothing to do with the preaching of a Lutheran or any other serious evangelical Christianity.”
One article, which described an “ecumenism of hatred,” slammed the “Evangelical right” for viewring the “civil rights movement, the hippy movement, communism, feminist movements,” “migrants,” “Muslims,” and even climate change to be threats to the American way of life.
The essay’s authors also criticized Republican presidents for their Evangelical Protestantism, including Nixon, Reagan, George W. Bush, and Donald Trump.
