Kamala Harris Says She’s Not a Democratic Socialist

Presidential hopeful Sen. Kamala Harris took questions from reporters Monday in New Hampshire, where she sought to distance herself from the politics of former presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), a self-described Democratic Socialist.

Asked by Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy if she would have to move to the left to compete with Sanders, who is likely to announce his own 2020 run, Harris replied, “I will tell you I am not a Democratic Socialist.

“I believe that what voters want is to know that whoever is going to lead understands that in America today not everyone has equal opportunity and access to a path to success. That’s been building up for decades and we’ve got to correct course.”
