Ilhan Omar Admits She Supports BDS Movement
In contrast to pre-election remarks in which she appeared to reject the boycott, divestment, and sanctions movement against Israel, Rep.-elect Ilhan Omar, a Democrat from Minneapolis and one of the first Muslim women elected to Congress, now appears to support BDS.
When Omar was asked at an August primary debate held in a synagogue to specify “exactly where you stand” on BDS, she replied that BDS was “not helpful in getting that two-state solution” — neglecting to mention that in fact, she supports the policy. Her office made remarks on Sunday to a website called MuslimGirl claiming that Omar does indeed support the BDS movement.
“She’s either misrepresenting or misunderstanding,” said Rabbi Avi Olitzky of Beth El Synagogue, which hosted the debate.
