Floundering Biden’s Donors Hold Emergency Meeting

As White House hopeful Joe Biden’s campaign flounders, his biggest donors gathered for an emergency closed-door meeting this weekend in Philadelphia, according to the New York Times.

“In a sign of the attendees’ significant financial firepower, Mr. Biden himself addressed the several dozen donors who came to the retreat on Saturday, rallying them for 45 minutes about the months ahead, people there said,” the Times reported. “The campaign kept the session with Mr. Biden behind closed doors, despite pledging to open them to the press.”

Biden, who once led his Democrat competitors by as much 26 percentage points, is no longer the frontrunner. He trails Sen. Elizabeth Warren in Iowa and New Hampshire, and his fundraising numbers were eclipsed this quarter not only by Warren but also by Bernie Sanders and even low-polling Pete Buttigieg.

“Biden looks like he can’t compete with Warren, Bernie and Buttigieg,” said strategist David Kochel. “How’s he going to compete with Trump?”
