Candidate Harris Floundering in Her Home State of California

Democrat Senator and presidential contender Kamala Harris is struggling to keep her 2020 White House dreams alive after falling behind her major competitors in the polls in her home state of California.

Though she once held a top-tier status in the presidential race, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Sen. Bernie Sanders, and former Vice President Joe Biden now all lead Harris by double digits, according to a Change Research poll released this week. The gap between Warren and Harris has widened by six points over the last month alone.

According to the poll, taken for KQED October 15-18, Warren leads in California with 28% support among Democrat voters, Sanders with 24%, and Biden with 19%. Even South Bend, IN Mayor Pete Buttigieg pulled ahead of Harris, to fourth place with 9% support. Harris fell to fifth place with 8%.

Harris ranks far below her competitors even among female Democrat voters in her home state, coming in at just 7% support.
