Angela Davis to Give University Keynote on MLK Jr. Day
The University of New England is set to host Angela Davis, former leader of the Communist Party USA and an FBI’s Most Wanted activist, as the keynote speaker for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
The University made no mention of Davis’ radical history in the official release about the event. Instead, it characterized her as someone who “has always emphasized the importance of building communities of struggle for economic, racial, and gender justice.”
“Bringing Angela Davis to campus is a significant event in my life, and I know that seeing her in person and hearing her speak will be a momentous event in the lives of our students and our community members,” said the director of intercultural student engagement.
