Born in 1968, Carol Christine Fair is an Associate Professor in the Security Studies Program at Georgetown University. Her academic research focuses on South Asian political and military affairs. In the aftermath of the 2016 presidential election in which Donald Trump defeated Hillary Clinton, Fair spent a full month posting Twitter attacks against a Muslim ex-colleague, Asra Nomani, who had voted for Trump. In her tweets, Fair called Nomani a “wench,” a “fraud,” a “fame-mongering clown show,” and the equivalent of a “fucker” in her native Urdu. In a tweet dated November 22, Fair told Nomani: “I’ve written you off as a human being. Your vote helped normalize Nazis in DC.” Two weeks later, Fair wrote a profanity-laced “open letter” to “Nomani and her Trump-supporting ilk,” which culminated with the capitalized sentence, “FUCK YOU, GO TO HELL.”

While exercising at an Alexandria, Virginia gym in May 2017, Fair noticed that the controversial white nationalist Richard Spencer was there as well. By Fair’s telling, she “loudly identified [Spencer] as a neo-Nazi” and told him “that this country does not belong to white men.” In response to the incident, the gym, seeking to avoid negative publicity, quietly terminated Spencer’s membership. Proudly “unapologetic” for her action, Fair subsequently vowed that if someday she were to see Mr. Spencer in some other public place, she would again vociferously identify him as “a neo-Nazi.”

In October 2017 Fair launched her personal blog, titled “Tenacious Hellpussy: A Nasty Woman Posting from the Frontlines of Fuckery.” The blog’s motto is, “Cunty women get shit done.” Fair also adopted a new Twitter mug shot: an image of Russian President Vladimir Putin riding a naked, half-pig Donald Trump. Moreover, she has a Twitter page titled “ShitMenSay,” where she has published the home addresses, phone numbers, and employer information of some of her critics — all in the name of what she calls “ACCOUNTABILITY.” “Some men have had the audacity to whine that I am outing my poor, defenseless harassers,” says Fair. “I tell these weasels to take their (almost always) white, male privilege and kindly deposit it in the only orifice that doesn’t embarrass them when it’s open.”

Lamenting that it is impossible to “effect change by using the normative language expected of someone with a PhD,” Fair routinely uses obscenities and other incendiary language as expressions of defiance against America’s “systematic rape culture” and its effort to “discipline our [women’s] rage.” In a September 2018 blog post justifying her profanity as “sacred,” she wrote: “I will not discipline my voice, my words, or my body. I will refuse to conform to your rules which are designed to constrain me like a corset for your convenience and comfort. I will not respond to this war on women decorously…. I will fight this war asymmetrically. I will use the vernacular it demands.”

On January 11, 2018, Fair was at Frankfurt Airport in Germany when her carry-on luggage was flagged for additional security screening. When German Federal Police (GFP) officers informed her that her bag contained improperly packed cosmetics and too many liquids, she became “increasingly uncooperative,” according to GFP, and began “calling them, among other names . . . ‘German Nazi police,’ as witnesses can confirm.” In an article that Fair subsequently wrote for the Huffington Post, she described the GFP officers’ behavior as “little more than jack booted thuggery” that was also “deeply gendered.”

In September 2018, Fair, who claims that her uncle sexually assaulted her on a regular basis from the time she was a toddler until she was thirteen, was highly outspoken regarding 51-year-old Christine Blasey Ford’s unsubstantiated and uncorroborated allegation that Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh had tried to sexually assault her (Ford) at a high-school party 36 years earlier. Fair used her Twitter and Tumblr accounts to characterize Kavanaugh as a “rapist” and “perjurer,” and to depict Republicans as “a f—ing death cult” of “filthy swine” that were “pro-rape, pro-pederasty, pro-perjury, pro-corruption, pro-Russian hacking, pro-child trafficking, pro-white male supremacy, pro-VERY-late-term abortion of children with AR-15’s.” She also portrayed Trump voters as “Trumpanzees,” and described their pro-Trump “MAGA” (“Make America Great Again”) hats as “socially-acceptable Klan hoods.”

After watching Republican senators defend Kavanaugh in a televised hearing on September 27, Fair tweeted: “Look at [this] chorus of entitled white men. All of them deserve miserable deaths while feminists laugh as they take their last gasps. Bonus: we castrate their corpses and feed them to swine? Yes.”

A few days later, Fair told the website Heavy.com: “This [Trump] regime is hell-bent upon disenfranchising women, POC [people of color], non-Christians, LGBTQI and empowering a larger role for corruption in our governance…. This is only the beginning of fascism in America.… [T]he GOP is seeking to consolidate authoritarianism because they can’t win in a fair fight.”
