Overview


* Elaine Brown and Karima Al-Amin are currently co-authoring For Reasons of Race and Belief, The Trials of Jamil Al-Amin (formerly H. Rap Brown). Elaine Brown is also working on a non-fiction book titled Melba and Al, A Story of Black Love in Jim Crow America.

* Brown is the editor of Messages to Our Brothers and Sisters on the Other Side of the Wall (2007), a collection of autobiographical essays by black prisoners in New Mexico.

* Brown has served as the executive director of the Michael Lewis Legal Defense Committee, which, according to Brown’s website, supports “the legal appeal of Lewis (‘Little B’), who, arrested in 1997 in Atlanta, Georgia, at the age of 13 for a murder he did not commit, was convicted and sentenced to life in prison, where he remains.”

* Brown is a member of the steering committee of the December 9th Georgia and International Prisoners’ Rights Movement; the Kenneth Harding, Jr. Foundation; and the Committee to Free Romaine “Chip” Fitzgerald. She also sits on the advisory board of the 100 Black Men Community School (Oakland, California).

* Brown, who studied classical piano for many years, has recorded two albums of original songs.
